The traditional 33rd meeting of Chakavian poets ‘Verši na šterna’ took place on Saturday 13 June 2026 at the beautiful Battistella waterfront in the heart of Vižinada. Organised by the Poreč City Library and the Municipality of Vižinada – Visokoda, the meeting again this year brought together authors, fans of the Chakavian word and all those who recognise the importance of preserving native speech, cultural identity and tradition. A public lecture by academic Robert Matijašić entitled ‘History and History from Roman Conquest to Colony Establishment’ was held at the State Archives in Pazin on the occasion of the International Archives Day 2026 and as part of the International Archives Week, which this year is held under the theme ‘Archives and Science’. Organized by the Primary School Vladimir Nazor Pazin, in the hall of the Istrian Pazin Memorial House, a literary forum Talks about Nazor was held: 150 years of inspiration, dedicated to the life and work of Vladimir Nazor. Our librarian Anamarija Kurelić also spoke about Nazor. She presented the Life and Work of Vladimir Nazor to the visitors, presenting a rich biography and literary oeuvre of one of the most important Croatian writers. In addition to Anamarija Kurelić, lectures were given by Prof. Josip Šiklić on the topic of the Pazin period of Vladimir Nazor: Professor, poet and discoverer of Istria and Prof. Martina Šajina Ivetić with a presentation to Galiots of today. On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, senior archivist of the State Archives in Pazin dr. sc. Vedran Dukovski gave a lecture on ‘Military Administrations in Istria and Pula in 1945’. 1947’. The lecture was about cultural, social and political circumstances in Istria and Pula during the period of military administration (1945. 1947), with particular reference to their organisation. The lecture was held in the Reading Room of the Pensioners' Club in Pula, as part of a series of lectures organized on the occasion of the Day of the City of Pula.

Book on the notary Antun de Teodoris presented in the Istrian Parliament

On Thursday, 23 April 2026, the book ‘Registers of the Poreč Notary Antun de Teodoris (January 1449)’ was presented in the Istrian Parliament in Poreč. April 1487)’, prepared by Zoran Ladić and Marin Martinčević. The presentation was opened by Loris Peršurić, Mayor of Poreč – Parenzo, and Mirela Mrak Kliman, Director of the State Archives in Pazin. The book was then presented in detail by the authors, while the reviewer prof. dr. sc. Mirjana Matijević Sokol was absent, and her review was read by dr. sc. Elvis Orbanic. The event brought together many interested visitors, providing an opportunity to get acquainted with important archival sources and contribute to the research of Istrian history.

On Thursday, 2 April 2026, the signing ceremony of the Contract on the allocation of funds for projects and programs in culture of the Istrian County for 2026 was held in the Coworking Centre Pula. 21. Night of Museums in Pazin

As part of the 21st. On the night of the museum, conservationist-restorer Ana Krstanović from the State Archives in Pazin participated with the theme ‘Istra’ Bulletin – from paper to web: Restored and digitized witness of history from 1946, within which she presented the process of restoration and digitization of this valuable archival material. Newsletter Istra is an archival source created in March 1946 in the context of diplomatic and political preparations for the arrival of the Inter-Allied Commission in Istria. In 2025, the material was restored and digitised, extending its lifespan and making it accessible and usable to the general public. Evening of commemoration on the occasion of the transfer of the remains of Bishop Dobrila to the Poreč Cathedral

On Friday, 16 January 2026, the Evening of the Commemoration of Bishop Juraj Dobrila was held in the Istrian Parliament in Poreč. As the envoy of the Minister of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, dr. sc. Nine Obuljen Koržinek, the event was attended by Mirela Mrak Kliman, director of the State Archives in Pazin. From 21 to 24 October 2025, the 7th Congress of Croatian Archivists entitled ‘Archives in a Digital Society’ was held in Pula, at the Park Plaza Histria Hotel. As part of the Istrian Library Week event, on 15 September 2025, a lecture called Traditional Music of Istria was held, which attracted numerous visitors and lovers of cultural heritage. On the occasion of the International Archives Week 2025 at the State Archives in Pazin on 9 June 2025 at 12.30 p.m. prof. dr. sc. Ivan Zupanc held a lecture on the Franciscan Cadastre and Istria. In addition to the lecture, cadastral maps, plans and plans from the rich holdings of the State Archives in Pazin were presented. The introduction of the Franciscan cadastre in Istria began with the first phase of 1818-1821, when the field part of the cadastral survey was carried out. The beginning of the survey is connected to the northwestern part of the peninsula where the first actions of defining the boundaries of cadastral municipalities were carried out. On Saturday 10 May 2025, the book ‘Picanska parochial chronicle (1812)’ was presented at the Istrian Centre for Intangible Culture in Pićan. 1832).  The book contains a transcript of the parish chronicle of Pićan, led by the parish priest Ivan Antun Težak (1776). 1837). The records were written in Italian, chronologically from 1812 to the end of 1832.    Observed geographically, Težak brings data on Pićan, events in the wider area of Pićan, i.e. in Istria as well as in Europe. In the thematic sense, a particularly extensive space gives a description of meteorological conditions and conditions in the agrarian area of Pićanština. The 14th edition of the Judita National and University Library in Zagreb was held in the Judita Hall. D-fest - Festival of Croatian Digitisation Projects. More than 170 participants from the archival, library and museum communities gathered on 8-9 May 2025 to exchange knowledge and experience on digital transformation, sustainability and environmental responsibility, digital collection management, long-term archiving and access to data, innovative technological solutions, the role of artificial intelligence in cultural content processing, and legal and ethical challenges in the digital environment. As every year, the festival has become a place for exchanging knowledge, ideas and experiences and encouraging dialogue on the latest topics from the world of digitalisation. In the town tower in Motovun, on 25 April 2025, two valuable scientific publications dedicated to Istrian and Motovun history were presented. The books Rižanski placit (Rižanski placit) were presented in 804, by prof. dr. sc. Anamari Petranović, and the Creation of the Motovun Municipality, whose authors are prof. dr. sc. Zrinka Erent-Sunko, doc. dr. sc. Miran Marelja and prof. dr. sc. Ivan Milotić. Extremely rare book “Carnivorous Plants” by Charles Darwin presented

The Institute of Agriculture and Tourism Poreč presented Charles Darwin’s extremely rare book ‘Carnivorous Plants’ – a German edition from 1876, the only such book in Croatia!   The lecture was held as part of the BOOKtiga event, and the gathered had the opportunity to hear dr. sc. Barbara Sladonja, a biologist at the Institute, who emphasized the scientific significance of this book.   A particularly interesting part of the event was the presentation of the restoration of the book, which was professionally performed by Sanja Šetić and Ana Krstanović from the State Archives in Pazin. The book ‘Witness of Stepinac's Voice of Holiness’ by Juraj Batelje was presented

The presentation of the book Witness to Stepinac's Voice of Holiness by Juraj Batelj was held in the Great Hall of the State Archives in Pazin on 19 February 2025. The book presents the biography of Bishop Dragutin Nežić, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of his service to the Church in Istria, and through historical sources, testimonies and analytical contributions sheds light on his role in the ecclesial and social life of Istria, as well as the connection with the activities of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac. ‘Past and Word’ workshop with Joakim Rakovac Elementary School students from Sv. Lovreča

Today we had the honor of hosting students of the 7th and 8th grade of Joakim Rakovac Elementary School from Sv. Lovreč who participated in the ‘Past and Word’ workshop as part of their homeland classes.   As part of the workshop, students explored the library materials, newspapers Our Syllable and People's Friend, and inspired by articles, stories and interesting details from newspapers, made posters, comics and infographics using the Canva tool.   This workshop enabled students to interpret the past in a modern way, explore how news was once transmitted and understand the importance of preserving historical records that are the basis of our cultural identity.   We are proud that we could be part of this interesting and educational project. On 18 December 2024, the State Archives in Pazin held a presentation of the book Zbornik Pazin memorijal - Book 36: The town of Pazin in the past and present, organized by the Cathedral of the Chakavian Parliament for the History of Istria Pazin and the State Archives in Pazin. The book was presented by Slaven Bertoša, Marija Ivetić and Maja Zidarić Pilat, highlighting its scientific and cultural significance and contribution to the study of historical development and contemporary topics of the city of Pazin. Medieval Statutes of Istria and Kvarner (5-6.12.2024)

On 5 and 6 December, the International Scientific and Professional Conference "Medieval Statutes of Istria and Kvarner" was held in the State Archives in Rijeka, bringing together numerous scientists and experts in the field of historical and legal sciences. The conference was organized by the State Archives in Rijeka, the State Archives in Pazin, the Koper / Archivio regionale di Capodistria Provincial Archives and the Faculty of Law in Rijeka. During the two-day program, participants presented the legal-historical importance of medieval statutes of Istria and Kvarner, their relation to Roman law, social customs, criminal law provisions, economic issues and the role of statutes in the research of the cultural and legal heritage of the northern Adriatic.         Reconstruction and upgrade of the military warehouse for the needs of the archival storage Reconstruction and upgrade of the military warehouse included the reconstruction of the existing building in which, in addition to the archival storage, a workshop for the conservation and restoration of materials on paper was arranged, and the upgrade of the northern building, which is fully used for the reception and permanent preservation of archival material. Of the projected 1,600 m² net usable area, almost 1,200 m² has archive storages with movable racks in which it is estimated that up to 9,500 required meters of archival material will be stored. The Croatian Archival Society (HAD) in cooperation with the State Archives in Vukovar (DAVU) organized the 55th Conference of Croatian Archivists from 23 to 25 October 2024. The registration of participants started already on Tuesday, October 22, and continued on Wednesday, October 23, when the opening ceremony of the consultation was held. The project Archives and Traces of Migration explores the transnational contexts of migration and diaspora through archival and archival perspectives. The project activities raise issues of evaluation, preservation, description and access to archival and documentary material that documents emigration and immigration, expatriation and diaspora communities, migration in the broader sense of the term. D-FEST – The 13th Festival of Croatian Digitisation Projects dedicated to the digitisation of cultural and scientific heritage, digital materials, digital products and services management systems and the promotion of digitisation projects took place on 16 and 17 May 2024 in the Croatrium (Judita Hall) at the National and University Library in Zagreb. The conference brought together experts in the field of digitization of cultural heritage, librarianship and archivistics. Motovun scientific conference – the emergence of the city and the medieval municipality on the 1220th anniversary of the first mention of Motovun

Motovun was first mentioned in 804 in Rižanski placit. As part of the project day, students of the Juraj Dobrila Gymnasium and Vocational School (1st and 1st c grades of natural-mathematical gymnasium and general gymnasium with teachers Silvija Mavrić and Renata Pifar Macuka and 2nd grade of administrative clerk with teacher Silvija Starčić) visited the Archives and attended a lecture on the activities of the Archives, and had the opportunity to see selected copies of the exhibited archival material. Jubilee (tenth) Motovun Colloquium on Borders and Demarcation was held (10-11.11.2023)

On 10 and 11 November 2023, the jubilee X. Motovun Colloquium, an international scientific conference dedicated to border and demarcation issues, was held in Motovun at the premises of the City Tower and the Five Towers Gallery. The theme of this year's conference was chosen in 2022 (at last year's Colloquium), and in 2023 it was further updated, which added additional curiosity to the entire two-day event. On Friday, 20 October 2023, a ceremonial programme marking the 65th anniversary of the State Archives in Pazin was held at the State Archives in Pazin.

With the anthem of the Republic of Croatia and the solemn song of the Istrian County performed by tenor Luka Žiberna, and with the piano accompaniment of Josip Krajačić, students of the Music Academy of the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, the ceremonial program of marking the 65th anniversary of the founding of the State Archives in Pazin began. The presentation of Mate Ćurić’s book ‘TRADING – A Blind Eye’, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the unification of Istria with its motherland, took place on 18 October 2023 in the Great Hall of the State Archives in Pazin. The book was published by Matica hrvatska Pazin, co-published by the Istrian branch of the Association of Croatian Writers, and it is about texts about the recent history of Istria, especially those concerning events, witnesses and actors of the so-called September events about the union with the motherland of Croatia. The 2023 Cultural Heritage Day was marked by the State Archives in Pazin with the theme “Glagoljica in Istria”.

In 2023, the State Archives in Pazin marked Cultural Heritage Day with the theme ‘Glagoljica u Istra’. Since the Glagolitic alphabet is one of the oldest letters in the world and has a special significance for Istria, this topic reflects the rich history and cultural heritage of Istria. Academician Milan Mihaljević, PhD, spoke about this topic. Sandra Fire and dr.sc. Josip Galić, and dr.sc. Josip Mihaljević presented the computer games for learning Glagolitic script that he made himself.

Following a public procurement procedure, the State Archives in Pazin signed today, on 13 April 2023, a contract with the company DE CONTE d.o.o. from Labin on public works for the reconstruction and upgrade of the former military warehouse ‘Bertoši’ for the purposes of the archive repository. The value of the signed contract is 2.094.200,00 euros without VAT, and the deadline for the completion of works is the end of November 2024. The reconstruction and upgrade of the military warehouse will include the reconstruction of the existing building, which will be accompanied by a workshop for the conservation and restoration of materials on paper, and the upgrade of the northern building, which will serve fully for the reception and permanent preservation of archival material. Presentation of the 1580 edition of the Apostolic Visitation of the Diocese of Pula by Bishop Augustin Valier/ Visita apostolica alla Diocesi di Pola del vescovo Agostino Vallier nell’anno 1580 was held on 17 March 2023 in Poreč. The presentation was organized by the publishers of the State Archives in Pazin, the Diocese of Poreč and Pula, the County of Istria, the Archaeological Museum of Istria and the publisher Josip Turčinović. The reviewer of the issue is prof. dr. sc. Tomislav Galović. Plate set for Otokar Krešovani in Pazin's Buraj

Yesterday (28.1.2022.) in the presence of representatives of the Chair of the Chakavian Parliament for the History of Istria, donors of the company Kamen from Pazin, the State Archives in Pazin and the Pajc family, on their renovated family house, located at the top of the Pazin old town of Buraj, a plaque was reinstalled to the Croatian journalist and publicist Otokar Keršovani, killed in 1941 by the Ustasha authorities in Zagreb's Dotrščina. In a short presentation, the President of the Executive Board, Professor Josip Šiklić, noted the importance of Otokar Keršovani, whose name was also borne by the Pazin high school until the early 1990s. On December 21, 2021, the State Archives in Rijeka handover of archival material of Istrian provenance took place. The aforementioned handover to the State Archives in Pazin returned the archives of notaries from Istria County (Alvise Bucceleni (Rovinj), Carlo Mecchia (Poreč, Motovun), Giacomo Biscontini (Motovun), Enrico de Bartolomei (Motovun), Giovanni Koller (Motovun) Antonini Servolo (Motovun), Raimondo Debeus (Pazin) and Giuseppe Koller (Poreč). It is a material from the period of Venetian, other Austrian and Italian administration which consists in nature of notarial registers and, to a lesser extent, notarial records, which are interpolated in places into the registers themselves and notarial acts.

To mark the start of the e-Culture – Digitisation of Cultural Heritage project, the Minister of Culture, dr. sc. Nina Obuljen Koržinek on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, in the Mimara Museum. The Minister pointed out that this project will increase access to cultural heritage and will protect it by systematic and permanent storage of content in digital form. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, a panel discussion on the National Plan for the Development of Archival Activity for the period from 2020 to 2025 was held on Friday, 13 December 2019 in the Croatian State Archives. The fair was opened by the writer Dragan Velikić, who has made a great time since he went to the literary waters as a high school student in Pula. 120th Anniversary of the Gymnasium in Pazin

In September 1899, the Imperial-Royal Grand State Gymnasium in Pazin was founded. It was the first high school with Croatian language classes in Istria and is located in the former barracks on Buraj, a building that today houses the working and storage spaces of the State Archives in Pazin. The gymnasium was in operation until 1918, and 12 generations of graduates came out of it.
