The opening of the 17th state professional conference Istria in the Homeland War will be held on February 25, 2025 in Pula (hotel Pula) starting at 10 am. The National Conference is organized by the Education and Teacher Training Agency in cooperation with the Croatian Memorial Documentation Centre of the Homeland War. Employees of the State Archives in Pazin will also participate in the meeting.

In 2008, the Education and Teacher Training Agency launched a professional development programme on the Homeland War, which aims to encourage the training of history teachers and improve the quality of learning and teaching about recent Croatian history in primary and secondary schools The conference is organized every year with a new topic, and this year the topic will be Istria in the Homeland War. Through expert lectures by prominent scientists and historians and the testimony of the participants in war events, teachers will be able to better understand the role and meaning of democratic changes in Istria in the 1990s, get acquainted with the establishment and operation of the 154th Brigade of the Croatian Army, the activities of the Pula War Port and the Pula Air Base in the Homeland War. The great role of Istria in the care of displaced persons and refugees will also be highlighted and the Brijuni meetings in July 1995 will be discussed.
