Reading room opening hours
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.;
- Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.;
- daily rest: from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays;
- The reading room doesn't work on weekends or holidays.
Archives are delivered for use every working day until 1 p.m. The materials ordered after 1 p.m. are prepared for the next working day.
Use of archival material
Archives and library materials are used in the Reading Room of the State Archives in Pazin. All users have the right to use archives under the same conditions, subject to the prescribed restrictions on availability.
Before arrival, we recommend that you contact the Archives to check that the requested material is kept and is available for use.

Arrival at the Reading Room
- upon first arrival, the user registers in accordance with the rules of operation of the Reading Room;
- users can enter the Reading Room no later than 15 minutes before the end of working hours;
- the material is used exclusively in the premises of the Reading Room, except in the cases provided for by regulations;
- materials of limited availability shall be used under specific conditions.
The conditions and manner of use of archives are regulated by the Archives and Archives Act, the Rules on the use of public archives and the Rules on the operation of the State Archives Reading Room in Pazin.
Before the research
Archival material is organized into funds and collections according to the creators and the way of their business. For this reason, data relevant to a particular research can be found in several archival units.
- collect as much information as possible on the topic you are investigating before you arrive;
- for genealogical research it is useful to know the names, places and approximate years of birth, marriage or death;
- we recommend that you study the available literature and information aids beforehand;
- Reading room staff will help you determine in which funds and collections the requested material can be found and instruct you on its use.
The State Archives in Pazin do not conduct extensive research in place of users. Certain professional services and research can be carried out for a fee, in accordance with the valid price list of the Archive.
