A public lecture by academic Robert Matijašić entitled ‘History and History from Roman Conquest to Colony Establishment’ was held at the State Archives in Pazin on the occasion of the International Archives Day 2026 and as part of the International Archives Week, which this year is held under the theme ‘Archives and Science’.

Academician Matijašić spoke about one of the most interesting issues in the oldest history of Istria – what happened to Histri, the pre-Roman inhabitants of the peninsula, after the Roman conquest in 178/177 BC. BC Special emphasis was placed on the period between the fall of Nesactium and the founding of the colonies of Polo and Parentium around 45 BC. BC, as well as the role of written and archaeological sources in interpreting this important historical period.

The lecture gathered interested audience and once again emphasized the importance of archives as a place of preservation, research and promotion of scientific and cultural heritage.
