On the occasion of the International Archives Week 2025 at the State Archives in Pazin on 9 June 2025 at 12.30 p.m. prof. dr. sc. Ivan Zupanc gave a lecture on the topic Franciscan Cadastre and Istria. In addition to the lecture, cadastral maps, plans and plans from the rich holdings of the State Archives in Pazin were presented.
The introduction of the Franciscan cadastre in Istria began with the first phase of 1818-1821, when the field part of the cadastral survey was carried out. The beginning of the survey is connected to the northwestern part of the peninsula where the first actions of defining the boundaries of cadastral municipalities were carried out. This makes Istria the earliest measured part of today's republics of Croatia and Slovenia. The first survey resulted in 348 cadastral municipalities in Istria. The extensive archival material created by this project consists of cadastral plans and cadastral studies, and today it is an invaluable source of data for researchers of numerous professions. The heritage of the Franciscan cadastre kept in the archives represents a first-rate insight into the space of the time. The cadastre, as well as its traces in the space, testify today to the cadastral enterprise of that time, but also to the determination of relations between people, i.e. life communities and their continuity to this day.
On 13 June 2025, a roundtable was held at 12.30 a.m. Examples of Family Research Practices of the State Archives in Pazin and Home Offices of the Istrian County. The round table was intended for employees of the parent offices of the Istrian County, and the reason for choosing this topic arose from the fact that in everyday work we both come to meet with genealogical research. Given this point of contact, it was useful to change the experiences, knowledge and ways in which we can work together to facilitate and speed up the process of dealing with requests or queries from parties related to various family researches.
A handbook was also presented at the round table Genealogical research for beginners, by Biserka Budicin and Maja Milovan.
