Ten were held in Opatija. ICARUS Croatia Days, an international scientific and professional conference that gathered experts in the field of protection, digitization and promotion of cultural heritage. This year’s theme, ‘Cultural Heritage Networks and Routes – Archives as Places of Stories and History’, focused on the role of archives in preserving and transmitting historical narratives.
The participants were greeted at the beginning of the meeting by Vesna Leiner, director of the Croatian Museum of Tourism and representative of one of the organizers, who welcomed in her own name and on behalf of the City of Opatija and presented the activities of the museum. She especially emphasized the contribution of Melinda Kostelac, President of the Cultural Council of the City of Opatija, who participated in the organization of the conference.
During the three-day program, participants from Europe and other parts of the world presented projects and research related to digitization, archiving and interpretation of cultural heritage through lectures, workshops and expert discussions on new technologies and international collaborations.
The programme also included the participation of librarian Anamarija Kurelić, who gave a lecture entitled ‘Publications of the State Archives in Pazin: link between the past and the future’, in which she presented the publishing activity of the Archive as an important bridge between archival material, contemporary research and the general public.
The conference was held in the hotel Milenij and with a rich program and international participation confirmed Opatija as an important meeting place for experts and guardians of cultural and historical heritage.
