About EXHIBITION
In the context of the traditional celebration of the International Archives Day, which this year is marked with contents under the indicative theme Disasters in the Archives, the State Archives in Pazin a virtual exhibition Natural disasters and infectious diseases in the area of Pazin joins the event by presenting interesting excerpts from archival material related to various natural disasters (beatings, droughts, fires, floods, etc.), infectious diseases (typhus, syphilis, cholera, scarlet fever, tuberculosis, pertussis, etc.) and animal pests (brucellosis, foot-and-mouth disease, bovine plague) that affected the area of Pazin and Pazin during the 19th and 20th centuries. Through the exhibits we get an insight into the extent of the actions of the disasters and disasters themselves, because in most cases they caused great hunger, misery and poverty among the local population.
The entire material presented at the exhibition consists of records and photographs stored in the State Archives in Pazin. Given the large amount of funds and material kept in the State Archives in Pazin, the exhibited material represents a selection from the following archival funds and collections: HR-DAPA-12 Pazin Principality, HR-DAPA-27 County Council in Pazin, HR-DAPA-55 Prefecture of Istria in Pula, HR-DAPA-66 Municipality of Pazin, HR-DAPA-75 Karabinje County Council of Pazin, HR-DAPA-79 Area People's Committee for Istria, HR-DAPA-132 People's Committee of the City of Pazin, HR-DAPA-194 Local People's Committee of Pazin, HR-DAPA-433 Imperial-Royal County Commissariat in Pazin and HR-DAPA-799 Collection of posters and other press.
Also, from the holdings of the library material of the State Archives in Pazin, a selection of articles with photo contributions from the daily newspaper Glas Istre was presented. The articles presented refer to the great floods that struck Pazin and Pazin in 1964, 1974. and 1993.
Given that users in the Archives most often consult the archives of the collection of civil registers when researching the history of various diseases, on this occasion the exhibition does not include the aforementioned material, but shows the material that is stored in other funds and collections.
The exhibition is thematically divided into three main sections: Natural disasters and fires, Infectious diseases i Animal diseases. Within each unit, the material is arranged in chronological order. The oldest document included in the exhibition dates from 1805, and these are prescribed penalties for violators of the law on infectious diseases. The youngest are the documents of the photograph of the flood that struck Pazin in 1993.[1]

The purpose of the exhibition is to enable a wider circle of people to see the selection from the holdings of the rich archives of the Pazin Archives and to present the Archive as an unavoidable place for cultural events.
