On 9 June 2011, the national archives throughout the Republic of Croatia marked the International Archives Day. On the occasion of marking the third international day of archives, the State Archives in Pazin opens an exhibition on the theme of Registrarship. Since the Institution cares for over six hundred civil registry books from the period from the 16th to the 20th century, a segment of civil registry has imposed itself, which should be shown to the public. All mother-books belong Collections of civil registers within which they are divided into two series (whole): Church registers and State registers. Parent books are an inexhaustible source of research in various branches of science, which makes their importance and value invaluable. The aim of the exhibition is to show the historical development of civil registers; from the records of believers to the records of citizens and believers focusing on the age of books, the way they are kept (in narrative form, i.e. in form form) and the type (born/baptized, married, deceased, state of souls…). We want to leave the wealth that we inherited from our ancestors to the generations to come. In order to do this, it is necessary to take care of them in the prescribed manner. Namely, a large number of books in the Archives came with significant damage caused by various causes and it was necessary, if not fully restored, then at least preventively to protect them in order to prevent further deterioration. Since the conservation and restoration of both civil registers and archival material in general is a very important segment of archival activity and preservation of cultural heritage, part of the exhibition space is dedicated to this topic.
