Jakov Jelinčić was born in 1938 in Postira on the island of Brač. He finished elementary school in Postira and Supetar on the island of Brač. He attended the diocesan classical high school in Split, and after it was closed in Zadar, where he graduated. After that, he served a two-year military term in the JNA and attended two years of theological studies. In 1963/64 she enrolled at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. She finished her studies in 1969 in her generation. In 1967 he was employed as an archivist in the Historic Archives in Pazin (today the State Archives in Pazin). In the same year, he was appointed head of the Department for professional and archival processing of older archival material. From May to September 1970, after the departure of Jovan Popović from the position of director, and before the arrival of Dražen Vlahov, he performed the function of acting director. In 1971 he passed the professional exam and enrolled in the postgraduate study of auxiliary historical sciences at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zadar. He received his master's degree in 1977. In 1988, he became an archival advisor. He was appointed director of the Historical Archives in Pazin in November 1991. He was reappointed in 1996 and 2000. He retired on August 15, 2003. Among the greatest merits of Jakov Jelinčić, the archival profession undoubtedly includes his work in listing the archival material of the Poreč and Pula dioceses, on which he systematically worked in the period from 1970 to 1980 together with the diocesan delegate for the church archives Mons. Ivan Grah. It was a work venture that was rarely recorded in the territory of the Republic of Croatia and former Yugoslavia. Mr. Jelinčić is the winner of a number of awards and recognitions of state, local and religious authorities as well as professions. The fact that he has published six books, eighty articles in proceedings, thirty-five contributions in scientific and professional journals proves that he was a prolific author. In this series, his lexicographic work should also be emphasized: He was an associate of the Croatian Biographical Lexicon and the Istrian Encyclopedia.
