An international scientific conference was held at the State Archives in Pazin on 6 May 2022. Slovenian priests in Croatian Istria in the 19th and 20th centuries. The meeting was organized in cooperation with the State Archives in Pazin, Poreč and Pula dioceses and the Integrity for Folk Spraying from Ljubljana. The support in the project was Škofija Koper, and the media sponsor was Radio Istra. The Organizing Committee of the Assembly consisted of: Barbara Riman (Chair of the Organizing Committee), Dražen Kutleša (co-organizer of the Meeting), Mirela Mrak Kliman (co-organizer of the Meeting), Sergije Jelenić (member), Ivan Milotić (member), Ilija Jakovljević (member), Ivan Miškulin (member), Maja Milovan (secretary) and Anamarija Kurelić (secretary).
In many Croatian and Slovenian border regions, the connection between the Slovenian and Croatian population was visible. The same is recorded at different levels, mainly due to the political-historical situation of a particular geographical area. Various forms of Slovenian-Croatian cooperation have been recorded in the area of Croatian Istria, primarily thanks to the different profiles of the learned population: teachers, national enlighteners and priests who played a significant role in the preservation of the national language, identity and customs of the region in which they operated.
The aim of this scientific conference was to point out the numerous priests who came to the area of Croatian Istria from Slovenian regions, who have worked in this area for longer or shorter years and to record, describe and evaluate their work. Many priests have indebted the population of Croatian Istria, but due to local activity only partial data can be found on their work.
At the scientific conference, topics related to the activities of Slovenian priests in Croatian Istria during the 19th and 20th centuries were updated, namely: 1. theoretical aspect and importance of the activity of the Slovenian clergy in Croatian Istria in diachronic and synchronic context, and 2. description of the activity and valorization of individual Slovenian priests who have been active in the area of Croatian Istria for a longer or shorter period.
On this topic, they presented: Ilija Jakovljević, Stipan Trogrlić, Elvis Orbanić, Milan Radošević, Ivan Miškulin, Marijan Jelenić, Marko Medved, Maja Polić, Rafko Valenčić and Vito Spetić.
