The 6th Istrian Historical Biennale, an international scientific conference launched by the Humanist Department of the University of Pula, the Poreč Heritage Museum and the State Archives in Pazin, was opened in the Salon of the Regional Museum of Poreč.
The theme of the 6th Istrian Historical Biennale was Animalia, bestiae, ferae…: Animals in history in the Adriatic area.
Twenty historians from Croatia, Slovenia and Italy presented the results of their research on this year's theme. So, through the lectures and the last day, the audience had the opportunity to find out about domestic animals and their role in agriculture in the Venetian period, farm animals in the municipality of Piran according to the population census of 1910, gambusia – a fisherman who ‘liberated’ Istria from malaria, and animals as a source of research in the history of medicine. Each lecture from this year's conference will be presented at the next conference, in two years' time.
