International Scientific Conference Le città porto alto adriatiche e lo sviluppo della sanità pubblica in età moderna held on 12 and 13 October 2022 in Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, in Sala Berengo Hall.

The conference was organized within the framework of the eponymous research project dedicated to the study of the development of public health in the early modern period, with an emphasis on the role of North Adriatic port cities in shaping health practices, norms and institutions. The programme included presentations on sanitary master's degrees, quarantine systems, diplomatic and commercial networks, the spread of infectious diseases and prevention and control mechanisms in the Mediterranean area.

Researchers from several European universities and scientific institutions participated in the event, including representatives of the State Archives in Pazin, who presented research based on rich archival material related to the history of public health and sanitary administration in Istria and the Adriatic.

The conference further confirmed the importance of an interdisciplinary and comparative approach in the study of public health history and the role of archival sources in understanding the societal challenges of the early modern era.
