Presentation of the edition: In the Ceremonial Hall “Tone Peruško” of the Department of Humanities of the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, the triple booklet “Bertošin zbornik” was presented, prepared and written for five years by friends, scientists, pupils and students in honour of Professor Emeritus Miroslav Bertoša (1938), and was published on the occasion of his 75 years of life and half a century of work. A special thanks goes to my students who surpassed me, their professor, and overtook me in their work, in some way surprised me with their response to cooperation in the Proceedings, but they also encouraged me to continue digging through the materials and archives and not to give up in work in order to create more books under the pen, said Prof. Bertoša. Elvis Orbanić, director of the State Archives in Pazin, accompanied by the University of Pula and publisher of the Proceedings, academics and reviewers Josip Bratulić and Tomislav Raukar, rector of the Juraj Dobrila University Dr Robert Matijašić and editor-in-chief Dr Ivan Jurković, spoke about this work and a rich historiographical production. Quoting Bertoš himself from an interview in Glas Istre in 2008 about what archives mean to him as “places where collective memory and personal destinies are stored”, Dr. Orbanić listed a number of such institutions in Europe where Miroslav Beroša “discovered” the history of small people, from Pazin, Trieste, Venice, Loreto, Udine and Rome, through the Vatican, Koper, Zagreb, Paris, to Zadar, Rijeka, Dubrovnik and Pula. Seventy authors, each on about 25 cards of their contributions, written for this occasion and not from drawers, make up the taste of this collection, which in two books with 700 pages and the third, actually the first, which introduces us to a hundred pages in an incredible material and bibliography, reminds us of rare editions. There are also a large number of references, notes and footnotes, over three and a half thousand of them, which indicate that this is a rare collection in general, which can be measured with those so far most famous, such as the collection about Vatroslav Jagić from 1908, or the one dedicated to Šišić. In all cases, these are peculiar personalities and oeuvres who, with their interdisciplinary approaches, and Bertoša with the experience of various schools and influences, have given an interesting reading to the general public, emphasized academics Bratulić and Raukar.
