The State Archives in Pazin, a respected and unavoidable factor in the cultural life of Istria, solemnly marked its 60th anniversary in the building of the former Pazin gymnasium on Friday.
– The Archive was established on 20 October 1958 in Pazin by the decision of the Pula District People’s Committee under the name ‘Istarski arhiv Pazin’. In terms of infrastructure, the Archives in Pazin received its external appearance until 1965: the area of the part of Kaštela and the building across from Kaštela, as well as the first inventories, with special emphasis on the help of experienced archivists from Rijeka and Zagreb. (…) Fifteen years later (1980) The Archives also received the building of the former Imperial-Royal Grand State Gymnasium in Pazin, where it still has its headquarters, said the director of this institution Elvis Orbanić at the ceremony.
The Pazin Archives today as a public institution in the culture of care of 976 archival funds and collections, which makes 4,247 obligating meters of archival material, and about 10,000 obligating meters are still in the archives. Pazin archivists met in the process of editing and processing except with Croatian and Italian, and to a lesser extent with German, French, Slovenian, English, Hungarian and Latin, as well as various Latin historical forms of writing and Glagolitic and Cyrillic.
– Citizens have frequently asked the Archives for help in resolving their property and legal issues, so the Archives handles up to 2,000 written requests annually, and there were years when this number reached up to 9,000 requests. Our popularly called external service performs about 50 supervisions per year and organizes seminars and workshops for staff in our archives. We can also boast a restoration workshop that every year refreshes and saves material, on average restores and conserves about 2,500 arak of material and makes about 30 bindings, said Director Orbanić.
At the very beginning of the ceremony, the Croatian anthem and the ceremonial song of the Istrian County were performed by a student of the Pazin College – the classical high school Nina Fakin, and then a minute of silence was held in tribute to all the deceased employees of the State Archives in Pazin. The attendees were welcomed by Renato Krulčić, Mayor of Pazin, Vladimir Torbica, Head of County for Culture, Ivica Poljičak, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Dinko Čutura, Director of the Croatian State Archives, Silvija Babić, President of the Croatian Archival Society, Robert Matijašić, President of the Chakavian Parliament, and Nevio Šetić, on behalf of the Brothers of the Croatian Dragon Society. The ceremony was also attended by the Bishop of Poreč-Pula in peace Ivan Milovan.
The jubilee 25th edition of the ‘Vjesnik istarski arhiv’ was presented by Klara Buršić Matijašić, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Pula, Silvija Babić, President of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and Ivan Jurković, Editor-in-Chief. Awards were given for many years of work, fidelity and outstanding merits and achievements in the development and improvement of the service to archival employees Mirjana Gržetić and Ljiljana Zgrablić. With recognition, they were given a picture of a crucifix from the Statute of Pula dating back to 1499, and it is kept by the State Archives in Pazin. Then, the archival employee Sebastijan Legović presented the renewed website of the State Archives in Pazin www.dapa.hr.
At the closing ceremony, the Director of the State Archives in Rijeka, Goran Crnković, presented an exhibition entitled ‘Pietro Nobile: Istrian motifs at the beginning of the 19th century’. The ceremony ended with a selection of music hits from 1958 to 2018. DJ Šurkija from Pazin and a banquet.
