International Archives Day, which is celebrated on June 9, and this year was dedicated to cycling, and on this occasion two interesting lectures related to cycling in Pazin and the history of cycling in Istria in the period from 1923 to 1945 were held in the State Archives in Pazin, according to the data of the Prefecture of Istria in Pula. DAPA Director Mirela Mrak reminded us that International Archives Day has been celebrated since June 9, 2008, in Croatia since 2009, on the occasion of the founding of the International Archives Council in 1948.<\/p>\n

The International Archives Day is dedicated to one topic every year, and this year it is a bicycle, which is today best known as the most environmentally friendly means of transport, and throughout its history, starting from the first half of the 19th century to our day, has significantly influenced the way of travel, fashion, various technical solutions, and the technology of production and processing of certain mechanical circuits. Famous cyclist and one of the founders of cycling sports in Pazin, Ivica Gr\u017eini\u0107, spoke about the development of bicycles from the initial wooden gates to modern competitive bicycles made of expensive materials. In the second part of the lecture, entitled \u2018History of organised cycling in Pazin\u2019, he referred to 40 years of successful operation of the Pazin cycling club, now called \u2018Meridina \u2013 Kamen Pazin\u2019. Through photographs, he presented to the audience numerous generations of Pazin cyclists, in fact cyclists from various regions who drove for the Pazin cycling club, which over the past four decades changed its name in accordance with the requirements of the sponsors.<\/p>\n

After lectures on modern cycling sport, historian Vedran Dukovski, an employee of DAPA, spoke about the history of cycling in Istria in the period from 1923 to 1945 according to the data of the Prefecture of Istria in Pula. According to documents from the Pazin Archives, Dukovski claimed that between the two world wars cycling in Istria was a very popular sport, with two clubs \u201cOlimpia\u201d and \u201cGiovanni Grion\u201d operating only in Pula. Many cyclists worked through Dopolavoro, and numerous cycling races were organized on the roads between Istrian cities, Dukovski said. There was a bicycle shop in Pula at that time, and in addition to being available for purchase, a bicycle could also be rented in Pula at that time. In addition to race data, Dukovski also found data on accidents involving cyclists. Thus, during the research period, several traffic accidents were recorded, which mostly ended with minor injuries, but there were also five accidents in which there were fatalities.<\/p>\n

After the lecture, visitors had the opportunity to see an exhibition of documents, articles, photographs of cups and cycling jerseys on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of organized cycling sport in Pazin, prepared by Ivica Gr\u017eini\u0107 and DAPA employees.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
